About

Major international concert halls are fighting to secure the young German-Russian pianist Igor Levit, who is a member of the international keyboard elite. Although he embraces the present with enthusiasm (he is very active on social media and undertakes numerous public engagements), as an artist he prefers depth to haste. His heart lies primarily in the German repertoire which made his name as a performer. He returns to this repertoire in his new recital with 4 Night Pieces from Opus 23 by Schumann, Schubert’s last and most grandiose sonata, and Chopin’s Sonata No. 3, which is less famous than his Sonata No. 2 with its “Funeral March”, but feels more fully realised as he successfully brings together all the elements of the “Chopin style”.
