About

Andrea Marcon pursues his collaboration with the Orchestre de chambre de Paris focusing on Beethoven, to whom he brings the sense of historical rigour he has developed in the baroque repertoire, notably in the works of Handel and Vivaldi. The Italian conductor will try to pinpoint the essence of the moment when the “sensitive” classicism of the second half of the 18th century tipped over into Beethovian revolution. Symphony No. 1 in D major Wq. 183 by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Bach’s second son, is tasked with revealing his Empfindsamkeit, which places the emphasis on expressivity, emotion and freedom from the constraints of the baroque canon. Concerto for piano No. 1, composed twenty-five years later at the turn of century, with soloist Alexander Gadjiev, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 reveal a young composer aged thirty who decided to embrace his heritage in order to escape it more effectively.
